DIFFERENT TYPE OF DISCS

As the size and weight of a vehicle increase, so does the stress on its braking system, generating significantly more friction heat. Brake pads and discs work together to convert kinetic energy into heat, and in heavy-duty braking systems, managing this heat becomes critical.

To prevent brake fade and ensure consistent performance, the ventilated brake disc is designed to quickly dissipate heat. Its exposed structure gives it a key advantage over drum brakes, which are prone to overheating due to poor ventilation.

This is why ventilated disc brakes are preferred in modern vehicles—they offer superior brake performance, reliability, and thermal control under demanding conditions.

The basic brake disc is a smooth, flat component typically made of high-grade iron and mounted to the rotating axle spindle. Commonly used in smaller vehicles, these iron brake discs are a cost-effective solution due to their lightweight demands and affordability. Their durability and ease of replacement make them a reliable choice in many automotive braking systems.

BRAKE DISC STRUCTURE

Disc brake pads are housed within brake calipers (shown in red in the illustration below). When the hydraulic braking system is engaged, the calipers press the pads against the brake rotor (disc), generating friction that effectively slows down or stops the vehicle.
